Top 3 Ways to Clean Gas Ranges

It is hard not to love the joy of making home-cooked meals in your Charlotte, NC home, but the build-up of food debris and grease on the stovetop cannot be ignored forever. Glass-top electric ranges can be tended to with specialized cleaning solutions, but there are several household cleaners that can just as easily do the trick on gas ranges. Consider the top three cleaning solutions for a gas-top stove:
- Vinegar
A staple household cleaner is distilled white vinegar. Diluted acetic acid can dislodge the food that gets stuck on the surface of a gas range while dissolving cooking grease and dispelling the smoke smell. If your dirty stovetop needs a little extra attention, try sprinkling it with baking soda before adding the vinegar.
Many cleaning professionals advise making a one-to-one mixture of 5% distilled vinegar or 6% cleaning vinegar and water to clean a stovetop. Before spraying the surface, make sure to remove the grates. Let the vinegar sit for 60 seconds before wiping it off.
- Dish Soap
If you do not have any vinegar or prefer to use soap, try using dish soap to clean the areas with the most built-up grease. If accumulation is minimal, the degreasing agents in dish soap could then work to clean the entire stove. In this case, it is in your best interest to dilute the mixture.
You can also use full-strength soap on grease buildup by putting the dish soap directly on a scrub brush.
- Degreaser
Use a degreaser if it has been a long time since your last range cleaning. Degreasers are powerful cleaning formulas that can dissolve dense buildups.
There should be instructions on the bottle of degreaser that you choose to use, and we recommend following these directions closely. For most brands, spray the treatment on the dirty surface and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it off.
