If you live in the Pineville, NC, or Matthews, NC, area, then you know the weather can flip in an instant! It is not unheard of to get intense storms and sudden downpours here without much warning. So a flood watch or warning could pop up with little notice, leaving you without time to prepare. Do you know what to do if you find yourself under a flood watch or warning? Keep reading so you can be ready before a food warning appears.
According to the experts, you should:
- Make sure you have emergency supplies.
- Listen to newscasts or follow weather apps for updates.
- Don’t forget your furry friends. Prepare a plan for your pets in case of flooding.
- Have a gallon of water for each person and pet for at least three days.
- Be prepared for those around you who may have a disability and make plans that include them and their needs.
- Secure trash cans, lawn furniture, the cute gnome, and anything else that might be washed or blown away. Consider bringing smaller items indoors if there is time.
- Consider storm-proofing your garage to prevent damage to the items inside and to garage doors.
- If you must leave your property- turn off the power to your property and close the main gas valve.
- Ensure your business is prepared for possible flooding.
- As you are leaving, if the rain has started or there is runoff from another area, remember to avoid driving through standing water and avoid low areas.
