We know a lot of people groan when they hear the word meditation, and there are usually some protests because it can be hard to sit still for such a long time, but meditation doesn’t have to be difficult. Keep reading to learn the benefits of meditation and how you can do it.
You may have heard before that meditation is a good way to relax, but not everyone knows how to start.
Studies have shown that just two minutes of meditation a day can help improve long-term Happiness. Meditation also improves mindfulness, purpose in life, social support, and a decrease in symptoms of illness. Over time meditation will also help improve attention span and focus.
One study showed that after just five days participants had more control over stress. The participants also showed lower depression, anger, and fatigue.
We know that it can feel daunting to start meditation without any guide, which is why we recommend using apps like HeadSpace, Calm, or following this podcast on Spotify.
When you start meditating it may not look like what you imagine. Meditation comes in many forms. It could look like 30 seconds of mindful breathing or it could be 30 minutes of guided meditation. Even if you struggle to sit still or calm your mind, short meditations guided through an app can seem easy and help boost your mood.
Along a similar vein, prayer can have similar effects as meditation, even for people who are not religious.
Our favorite form of meditation is sitting on our porch in Charlotte, NC, and listening to the birds!
Come back next week for more helpful tips from the SERVPRO of South Mecklenburg County team!
