10 Steps To Feeling Better: #9 Touch Someone
1/3/2022 (Permalink)
As we are getting closer to the end of our 10 Steps To Feeling Better series, we hope some of our tips have been beneficial. If they have, consider sharing them with a friend or family member to see if it helps them too.
We often underestimate the power of touch in our lives. Touch has the power to reduce pain, stress, and depression, reduce aggression, boost immune function, and so much more.
Giving a massage to a loved one can help reduce depression and strengthen relationships. Cuddling with a significant other can lead to lower stress levels and blood pressure while also boosting immune function.
Trust is built through touch. When we touch people is strengthens our abillity to communicate and improves bonding.
The power of touch from a teacher or coach can improve students' and players' performance. Touch in a team can promote cooperation and increase trust between teammates.
The power of touch is especially important for elderly people. This group often receives less physical touch, so even a quick physical interaction can help improve mood, cognitive function, reduce stress, and lead to a better quality of life.
The power of persuasion is increased by touch. Just touching someone's arm for a few seconds has a significant effect on how much help they will provide.
People who received 5 hugs a day were happier than those who didn’t. Make an effort to hug as many people in your life as you can, it will improve your happiness and theirs.
Right now in the time of 6-feet-apart, it is hard to get the same physical contact we may have received previously, so make sure to savor the hugs you receive from family. As safely as you can, we recommend reaching out to others even with something as small as a pat on the back. Not only will it benefit you, but you can bring others a bit of joy as well.
