How SERVPRO of South Mecklenburg County Dries Water Damaged Floors

2/10/2022 (Permalink)

Can hardwood floors be dried?

If I had a penny for every time we have seen this situation happen...well, you know the rest!

Homeowners often make a costly mistake when they are faced with a water loss.

The most common mistake involves hardwood flooring. Hardwood flooring can be an attractive low-maintenance flooring option, but when water is introduced, the cost of maintenance becomes more expensive.

When water enters your home, it can move very quickly and cause a significant amount of damage. And, reacting quickly can protect your flooring from irreparable damage. Water loss incidents require immediate extraction and drying to preserve floors, and waiting to call in the professionals can be the difference between returning hardwood floors to preloss conditions and completely replacing the flooring in your home.

Substantial loss incidents require a water removal service as soon as possible. Our SERVPRO of South Mecklenburg County team is ready 24/7 to respond to all water loss emergencies as fast as possible.

Many homeowners believe that they can solve a water loss on their own to save money, but attempting to dry a home, especially hardwood floors, after a water loss puts your flooring at risk of mold, buckled floors, and other problems.

Most often, homeowners cannot dry their flooring enough and are left with a persistent mold problem that will cause exponential mold growth. Using consumer grade dehumidifiers and fans will leave water trapped in the flooring and subflooring, creating even more problems for your home.

A less common, but very serious issue is overdrying floors. Sometimes, homeowners can get their hands on professional equipment, and without the proper training, it can be easy to over-dry hardwood flooring. Many people have the belief that the drier, the better, but unfortunately, hardwood floors have to have some moisture content to keep planks strong and prevent cracking and splintering.

While you might be tempted to handle a water loss incident on your own, we recommend seeking the services of SERVPRO of South Mecklenburg County. We get there Faster to any size disaster™ with the right tools and expertise for the job. So what tools do we use to dry your hardwood floors?

One of our favorite methods to dry hardwood floors is the panel drying system. This system works by using a series of panels tapped to the floor that allow a dehumidifier to remove moisture from the wood. This system helps us dry your floors quickly and safely.

While there are many other machines and equipment accessories we use at SERVPRO of South Mecklenburg County, this is a quickl look into one of the ways we dry your hardwood floors after a water loss. This machine helps us make it "Like it never even happened." And remember, we are always Here to help,® day or night, just give us a call at (704) 840-6112.
